Happy New year
Oliver Burkeman at the Guardian newspaper examined the benefits he has found resulting from being a member of a community choir. On 18th December 2015, he wrote,’Group singing is a perfect case of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. For entirely non-magical reasons – such as the averaging out of flat and sharp voices – a choir can sound far better than its individual members’ talents might suggest. The result is self-transcendence’ and he recognised that, like others, singing in a group enables one to inhabit another reality and become temporarily suspended in a world where life’s burdens are bearable, and spirits are lifted.
