The WoMMeN (Word of Mouth Mammogram e-Network) online hub was the brainchild of Dr Leslie Robinson (centre of photo) from the University of Salford. It was developed to support women going through the National breast screening programme.
Last week, Leslie and her team attended the House of Commons to receive the Society and College of radiographers’ award for North West Radiography Team of the Year.
Leslie said, “ We were so excited when we found out we’d won the North West award, but when we found out we’d won the UK Team of the Year award it was fabulous. What’s really good is that we are an online group all about social media, and the social media platforms we used went haywire when we found out, we were sharing the news on Twitter and Facebook about what we were doing.”
Leslie is a member of Eccles Community Choir, and several lady members of the choir contributed to the development work of the project. This is not the first time that people from the choir have helped with research at the University of Salford. It’s great that the choir has opportunities to support the health and well-being of others in addition to boosting their own health and well-being every Tuesday night when we sing together, well done everyone!
