The concert on Friday evening was excellent. The programme was cleverly constructed with a variety of genres grouped in themes providing a ‘banquet’ of summer music. The most memorable solos were for me ‘Le Filles de Cadix’ and ‘One Fine Day’ from Angela Rowley; and ‘The Vagabond’ and ‘I Got Plenty of Nuttin” from David Borsada.
The audience was wrapt throughout and Catherine Hall-Smith’s accompaniment was faultless and full of feeling. Volunteers from the choir helped on the door (Sue and Trish), with the raffle ( Margaret A and Pat) and with the refreshments at the interval (Margaret R and Sybil), helping to make the evening a great success. The top raffle prize was a meal for 2 at Smith’s and the second prize was a £20 voucher for Zollinger’s Butchers. Proceeds from the evening are for the choir funds – thank you very much!
The duet I enjoyed most was ‘Sun and Moon’ from Miss Saigon, although Porgy & Bess is always a summertime favourite, and ‘Bess You Is My Woman Now’ provided a delightful finale.

So… this week at choir practise it was back to earth with a bump! It seemed this week that for every 2 steps forward, we take 1 backwards! We made quite a good fist of the Hallelujah Chorus, but then took what seemed like ages to master a few bars of A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square. However, we have been there several times before, struggling with something new, and then it suddenly seems to click and we start getting it right, so it’s important not to become disheartened and persevere. Let’s hope we get everything nicely polished up for our summer concert on 19th July (Adults £2.50, children free) at Eccles Town Hall, starting at 7.30pm. I must try to find time to do some practising at home…
